Intel to teach tech in rural China
Intel recently forged an agreement with China's Ministry of Education to train teachers in rural areas in how to teach technology in rural schools, reports The Standard.
The agreement states that Intel will donate more than 10,000 personal computers to rural schools by 2008 and help train one million teachers over the next five years, who will in turn help educate more than 100 million students by 2011.
"Knowledge is the new principal commodity and education is the key for any nation's competitiveness," the Hong Kong newspaper cited Intel chairman Craig Barrett as saying.
Intel, along with Microsoft, is vying for the hearts and wallets of over 800 million rural residents in the world's second- biggest PC market. China has the world's fastest-growing major economy, which will rise 16 percent to $15.1 billion this year, compared with a 6 percent gain to $67.4 billion in the United States, according to researcher IDC.
